VAULTEK RS800i Wi-Fi Smart Rifle Safe (Biometric)

First off, I have never heard nor purchased from Armadillo Safes. Based on my recent order to California, this place is legit and my experience was great and worry free (very important for me). There are not a lot of reviews about this company but being veteran owned and operated, I wanted to give it my business and it went great (and the military/gov discount was awesome too). From time of order to delivery I only had to contact them once because of the discrepancy between “shop” which is their shipment tracker and the FedEx shipment tracker (follow the FedEx shipment tracker as that is more accurate). Aside from that, after my receipt of the safe (make sure to check the condition of the box and DO NOT sign until you have checked despite ANYONE saying especially the FedEx person delivering that it is just a formality for your signature). In Armadillo Safes’ email, they tell you to not sign until you have examined it and I highly recommend you do that. I did not have an issue but in my past experience once you sign it , it “relieves” the deliverer of damage (sort of, well it helps their case let’s just say). With regards to the review of the safe, I personally love it BUT make sure you are aware of the dedicated 2.4 GHz WiFi that is needed. I was on the phone with Vaultek for 2 hours before we got this resolved. So newer WiFi or nest systems (e.g. Google nest or similar) do not use dedicated 2.4 GHz but can support the full range 2.4 and 5 GHz. The issue with this WiFi system for Vaultek (by the way they will be releasing new WiFi technology in 2 years or sooner is the word that will address this) is that you MUST have a sole or dedicated 2.4 GHz to make and hold WiFi connection. So the way we got mine to work is to make a guest or secondary network off your router that was “forced” to only use 2.4 GHz WiFi and then connect your safe. That was the only way. If you have Google nest which doesn’t have the option to modify their settings this becomes problematic as it won’t let you force it to just 2.4 GHz so you have 2 options: 1) use another older 2.4 and 5 GHz router around the house that allows you to force it (Linksys or D-Link through the settings) to connect to your modem (not the best since you now have two routers but works) or 2) your current modem may have its OWN WiFi band that allows you to create a guest or secondary account/network separate from your Google nest. This may be difficult for some to follow but Vaultek is aware of this and you can mention my above options and they can better walk you through it. Luckily I have some limited tech knowledge to figure it out. BTW, almost forgot, before you fix down and fill up your safe, make sure it is relatively close to your MAIN router and check the WiFi connection first as you may need to troubleshoot the WiFi issue. Once you get the safe up and running, it works like a charm and it is great for my needs. The Vaultek APP is OK as my main gripe is I wish it would allow me to control more features. In case you are wondering and still reading this, the safe is relatively compact and more of a smaller safe (not a Fort Knox size) meaning it really is meant for those with a few rifles and handguns (2-4 scoped AR or hunting rifles, 3-5 handguns, and additional storage for ammo cans). Before you buy accessories you need to plan it out as I drew out exactly how I wanted the “Tetris” layout to be because it is TRUE, if you have a rifle mounted on the door, it becomes a tight fit and may not close if you planned the layout of this safe using the full interior dimension on Vaultek’s website. Luckily I took that into account, bought my accessories the same time, and it fit exactly how I wanted it. Plan, plan, and plan again on the layout so you don’t buy accessories you don’t or can’t use. Think of your rifle with full mag, scope, the length of barrel when laying things out. Now with all that said, I love the safe and thus far Armadillo Safes has been a great option for me (just waiting for my free dehumidifier is all). Anyways, good luck with your purchase and cheers!

The safe is very high tech, which as a lifelong professional technologist, is right up my alley. I can comfortably fit my various rifles, pistols, and mags knowing that my kids cannot access them and I will know if they even tried. It's certainly on the pricey side especially given the lighter materials and zero attempt at being fireproof, but everything I keep in there is replaceable, and my kids obviously are not. (I am happy to say that my educating the kids on firearms has dispelled their mystery, and they have not tried to access the safe once. They are also allowed to see the firearms any time they ask, which also helps quell any curiosity that might be getting the best of them.)

Setup was unfortunately very difficult, even for a techie like me. I have a very modern wifi mesh system and the latest generation of iPhone, but was unable to get the safe to pair with the iOS app and subsequently my wifi. I ended up digging an older wifi router out of storage and setting that up exclusively for this safe. I also had to dig an iPhone X out of a box, charge it, update it, and install the Vaultek WiFi iOS app to register an account and pair the safe. I can't imagine the frustration for those without my decades of technical experience and access to spare hardware for troubleshooting.

Once I got it working though, it's been fantastic. I can use the Vaultek Wifi app on my iPhone 15 without problem; it was just the initial setup that was failing. Vaultek REALLY needs to refine the setup process. Getting instant push notifications of attempted safe access gives me incredible peace of mind.

Armadillo has the best prices and has been really painless to work with. Highly recommend if you're going with a Vaultek to buy it from here. You can't go wrong.

Purchased the Vaultek RS800i from ArmadilloSafes and I am VERY happy I found this site. Was able to purchase this safe just like I would from Vaultek it self but for a cheaper price but with the same care and service as Vaultek so I even ordered another safe from here. HIGHLY RECOMMEND buys from Iria and Joshua and the Armadillo Safe team as I find my safe dealer!!

Let's be real - this safe is expensive for its size. What it offers, however, is some great features that add flexibility and peace of mind. The integrated perforated metal walls allow unique customization for your situation. The print reader is rapid and seems to work well. The wifi connectivity lets you know when it is accessed, successfully or not - a great feature with teenage boys in the house who are very aware of what's in the safe. Overall, for me, this safe was worth the investment.

Love the safe, it’s very pricey, something I never read on reviews is that the App from Vaultek is not great, the reviews for the App are honestly awful. There are more than a few issues with it which is disappointing considering you are buying the safe for the technology. In addition the humidity sensor does not seem to be accurate, it’s as much as 10%- 20% off at times. I also have a friend with the same issues on humidity readings. A lot of reviews do mention the amount of time the light stays on, I agree there should be a setting for leaving this on especially in the App itself. It really will only be a problem when you’re setting up and organizing your safe layout. The safe is exactly as expected, it’s a quick access gun locker. The magnets are extremely powerful, it’s customizable to your liking but slightly restricted by Vaultek accessories, they could be a little more creative with options. Currently I have 2 shelves, a full width and 2/3 width, (2) AR Mag holders on the back wall, Duel pistol holder on the shelf along with the magazine holder for 8 pistol magazines which is also shelf compatible. Door mounted Pistol holder and the door mounted Magazine holder for 6. I have a large rifle on the back wall but it’s mounted sideways due to the scope size. I have a mounted Acog with the Red Dot attached. That extra 3 inches from the RMR are just a little too much to mount it vertically or on the door. All in all I am happy with the overall purchase, it is definitely overpriced for what it is in theory. Overall I am happy with the purchase, if you’re looking for mass storage then maybe consider different options, if your looking for quick access in a small footprint this is a great option.
